DHL Supply Chain is expanding its U.S. healthcare logistics footprint with a new one-million-square-foot distribution center in Annville, Pennsylvania, aimed at supporting pharmaceutical and MedTech supply chains.

Set to open in 2026, the facility will serve as a center of excellence for life sciences and healthcare, and will operate as a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ). The designation allows for streamlined customs processes and potential tariff advantages, which DHL says will benefit companies facing regulatory complexity and increasing demand for temperature-sensitive logistics.

“The Annville Center of Excellence is a critical next step in delivering scalable, end-to-end solutions for the healthcare industry,” said Mark Kunar, CEO of DHL Supply Chain North America.

Located near Interstates 76 and 81, the facility is positioned for rapid access to East Coast markets and major transport routes. The site includes 100 dock doors, 230 trailer parking spots, and 250 employee parking spaces.

According to DHL, the Annville site will include infrastructure compliant with FDA and good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards, as well as cold chain capabilities to support biologics and specialty pharmaceuticals. The facility also incorporates energy-efficient features such as solar integration and EV charging stations.

The investment follows the company’s recent acquisitions of SDS Rx and CryoPDP, which expanded its final-mile delivery and biopharma transport capabilities. DHL said the new facility supports its broader “Strategy 2030”, which identifies life sciences and healthcare as a global growth area.

DHL cited an 8% annual growth rate in U.S. pharmaceutical logistics as a key driver behind the expansion. The company says the Annville center will provide services including inbound-to-manufacturing support, hospital distribution, and regulatory coordination with federal agencies.
