Cone Health is opening the largest heart and vascular facility in its history, completing a multi-year expansion of its cardiovascular services across central North Carolina.

The five-story, 156,000-square-foot facility — officially named the Cone Health Steven D. Bell Family Heart & Vascular Center — will operate as a department of Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. It is expected to serve approximately 120,000 patients annually.

Designed to streamline access to cardiovascular services, the new center brings diagnostics, physician visits, imaging, treatment planning, and pharmacy services under one roof. Cone Health spent eight years planning the $100 million project, aiming to simplify what was previously a multilocation experience for heart patients.

“Our patients used to have to drive to four or five different locations to receive complete heart care. We’ve consolidated all that into one single space that we couldn’t be happier about,” said Dr. James Hochrein, chief of the Cone Health cardiovascular service line.

The facility includes a range of features intended to improve both access and quality of care, including a CT scanner capable of capturing cardiac images between beats without the need for heart-slowing medication, mobility-friendly exam tables, and a 750-space parking deck with complimentary valet service.

Nine registration bays are available at launch, with a self-service kiosk to be added in the future. The center also includes a dedicated area for public education on cardiovascular health and prevention.

The Bell Center is the final phase of a $200 million investment in heart and vascular services announced in 2022. Other upgrades as part of that initiative include expanded facilities at Alamance Regional Medical Center, new catheterization labs at Moses Cone Hospital, and a separate rehabilitation center for heart and pulmonary patients.
