Metrasens has introduced a new MR safety system designed to detect projectile risks earlier and reduce unnecessary alarms, debuting the product at the RSNA annual meeting underway in Chicago.

The Naperville, Illinois-based company’s new system, Metrasens Vantage, is built for use at the entry point to MR suites (commonly referred to as Zone IV), and is engineered to identify ferromagnetic objects before they reach the scanner room. It incorporates multisource data, including ferromagnetic detection, door status, and personnel movement, to deliver context-sensitive alerts.

The system aims to address one of the leading safety concerns in MR: the accidental introduction of metallic items that can become hazardous projectiles inside the MR environment. Unlike conventional detectors that issue alerts based solely on magnetic signatures, Vantage uses contextual analysis to filter out non-actionable warnings, a design intended to reduce alarm fatigue among staff.

“MR safety has always been about more than just detection; it’s about giving clinical care teams the clarity and confidence to act when it matters most,” said Dr. Simon Goodyear, CEO of Metrasens. “Metrasens Vantage transforms entry control from a reactive checkpoint into a proactive safety intelligence system.”

Vantage includes adjustable detection zones that can be tailored to the layout of individual facilities. It also supports permission-based alert customization for authorized personnel and features what the company calls “smart environmental adaptation”, allowing facilities to suppress alerts from known benign sources.

In addition, the system integrates with Metrasens IQ, the company’s analytics platform, which compiles detection events into dashboards that can assist with safety audits, compliance tracking, and incident reviews.
