Akron Children’s is expanding its use of Abridge, a generative AI platform designed for clinical documentation, across multiple pediatric specialties, including primary care, gastroenterology, cardiology, and pediatric psychiatry.
The decision follows a pilot program in which Abridge was evaluated for its effectiveness in pediatric care settings. Clinicians reported reduced administrative burden, lower burnout rates, and more time for direct patient care.
Abridge’s Contextual Reasoning Engine enables the platform to differentiate between multiple speakers and automatically generate clinical and billable documentation. It also provides families with a Patient Visit Summary written at an 8th-grade reading level to help them stay informed without needing to take notes during visits.

“In the past, I would type everything the parents said while my patient would be bouncing off the walls,” said Dr. Micah Baird, a physiatrist at Akron Children’s. “With Abridge, I play with the child while talking to the parents. Those moments — this is what we do this for.”
Abridge, founded in 2018, provides AI-powered documentation tools designed to reduce administrative strain on healthcare providers. Its platform integrates with EHRs and supports over 28 languages across more than 50 medical specialties.
