Siemens Healthineers has entered a 10-year "Value Partnership" with WakeMed Health & Hospitals in North Carolina that will add robotics initiatives, advanced imaging capabilities, AI and staff and provider training across the health system's cardiovascular intervention and imaging programs.

“Value Partnerships are long-term relationships that enable healthcare providers to optimize operations, expand capabilities and advance innovation,” David Pacitti, president and head of Americas of Siemens Healthineers, told HCB News. “They draw on the company's entire Enterprise Services portfolio to add value beyond equipment. A managed equipment service (MES) is a bespoke value partnership that provides outsourcing of equipment ownership, risk and responsibility; future-proof access to modern, right-sized technology; value-added services that address the wider clinical environment; and a one-stop, holistic solution in return for a simple, fixed unitary payment.”

WakeMed will serve as a best-in-class cardiovascular laboratory and will have a world-class hybrid operating room, along with the ARTIS Icono and a Corindus CorePath GRX robot. These new innovations will enhance delivery of care across cardiac, vascular, neurosurgical, orthopedic, cancer and trauma services.

It also will be provided with advanced imaging technology, with top-line equipment and precise robotic assistance for greater diagnostic capabilities and 3D imaging capabilities for added patient comfort. This, in effect, will reduce patient scan times as well as radiation and contrast volume exposure.

In addition, WakeMed and Siemens will form a Corindus Training Academy, a workforce development program and training site for advanced imaging and robotic intervention innovations. A biomedical workforce development program consisting of WakeMed and Siemens employees will also enable constant resource development and advanced training.

WakeMed will continue to build upon its work with Siemens over time and engage in additional innovations that include the use of remote technologies.

“Our collaboration with Siemens Healthineers aligns with WakeMed’s efforts to accelerate innovation, serve as a preferred partner among industry leaders with expertise in technology and a shared vision for the future, as we support positive health outcomes for our many patients, their families and communities,” said Dr. Charles Harr, cardiothoracic surgeon and chief medical officer for WakeMed Raleigh Campus, in a statement. “Expertise, experience and advanced technology are hallmarks of WakeMed, including its rich history in being the area’s leader in cardiovascular interventions and care.”

WakeMed is located near the Siemens Healthineers’ flagship customer training facility in Cary, North Carolina.
