The New York-based VB Spine has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the exclusive rights to Augmedics' CT-to-fluoroscopy (CT-Fluoro) technology for spine applications, expanding its portfolio of augmented reality navigation technologies.
The agreement follows VB Spine's April acquisition of the exclusive rights to the Augmedics xvision Spine System platform. Financial terms of the latest transaction were not disclosed, and the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory requirements.
CT-Fluoro technology enables surgeons to register a patient's preoperative CT scan using standard fluoroscopic imaging rather than relying on intraoperative CT or 3D imaging systems. According to the companies, the approach is intended to provide greater flexibility in surgical workflows and broaden access to augmented reality navigation in facilities that do not have advanced imaging equipment.

"The addition of CT-Fluoro technology for spine applications will be an important step forward for the xvision platform because it provides surgeons with greater flexibility in how they utilize navigation," said Marc Viscogliosi, co-CEO of VB Spine, speaking on behalf of fellow co-CEOs Anthony and John Viscogliosi.
VB Spine said it plans to add the technology to its offerings for spine procedures after the transaction closes.
The company characterized the acquisition as part of a broader strategy to expand the xvision ecosystem and increase access to navigation technology by reducing imaging requirements during spine surgery. While the company said the technology may eliminate the need for intraoperative CT or 3D imaging in some procedures, those claims have not been independently verified in the announcement.
Augmedics developed the xvision platform, an augmented reality navigation system for spine surgery, before transferring exclusive rights to VB Spine earlier this year.
The announcement did not include a timeline for the closing of the transaction or for commercial availability of the CT-Fluoro technology under VB Spine ownership.
