GE HealthCare has introduced the Vivid Pioneer, a redesigned cardiovascular ultrasound system that combines AI with updated hardware to improve diagnostic speed, consistency, and image quality. The ultra-premium system has received both FDA 510(k) clearance and CE Mark certification.

The Vivid Pioneer features a new imaging engine, cSound Pioneer, which works in tandem with upgraded probe technology to deliver improved resolution and sensitivity in 2D, 4D, and color flow imaging. The device includes the 4Vc-D and newly developed 6Sc-D probes, built with XDclear technology, to support cardiac imaging across a broad patient population, including children.

The Chicago-based company says the system’s AI capabilities reduce operator variability and streamline routine measurements. Tools like AI Cardiac Auto Doppler, Easy AFI for strain and ejection fraction assessment, and 4D Auto LHQ for left heart function aim to speed up clinical workflows and support consistent decision-making. GE HealthCare reports up to a 360% increase in AI processing speed compared to previous systems.

“Vivid Pioneer is built to meet the moment in cardiovascular care where precision, speed, and accuracy are essential,” said Jyoti Gera, chief executive officer of cardiovascular and interventional solutions at GE HealthCare.

The system’s ergonomic design includes a larger display, customizable touchscreen controls, and a compact chassis intended to improve mobility in tight clinical settings. An integrated battery allows for short-term operation during power interruptions or room-to-room transfers without rebooting.

Dr. Ferran Roses, head of pediatric cardiology at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, said, “Vivid Pioneer is a fantastic new machine because it brings two very important things for my patients… extremely good image quality, and ... automatic quantification modes for most of my workflow so I can do my scanning very quickly.”

The Vivid Pioneer is now available in select international markets and will be exhibited at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2025 in Madrid.
