As a radiologist, I am particularly interested in the development of hybrid equipment.
Combining several image modalities into one system is another exciting trend in medical imaging.
Although, as president of the European Society of Radiology, I am much more interested in all European countries – both the richest and the poorest – having access to the current imaging technologies.
The constraints on health care budgets create dilemmas in almost all countries and practice in Europe is very diverse regarding the renewal of radiology equipment. Every health care institution or authority should have a plan for medical imaging equipment upgrade or renewal.
The era of personalized medicine and biobanking has led to a great heterogeneity of data and the integration of imaging and ‘omics’ data has become essential. There is a strong need for a structured repository for imaging data in order to facilitate personalized medicine, clinical trials, and the evaluation of new drugs.
