Samsung's UGEO WS80A ultrasound
On Monday, Samsung Electronics America Inc. launched its first premium ultrasound for the U.S. market.
The Samsung UGEO WS80A is a dedicated women's health ultrasound, which will add to the company's comprehensive suite of women's health products.
In addition to features like 5-D visualization technology, the ultrasound is unique in that it comes with a 5-year warranty, versus the standard one to two year warranty that's common with most imaging equipment.

"Given today's health care challenges and costs of ownership, we decided to come to market with a premium system with a full 5-year warranty," Doug Ryan, group vice president for health and medical equipment at Samsung's Enterprise Business Division, told DOTmed News.
Samsung bought Medison Co. in 2010, an established South Korean maker of ultrasound equipment, and already has eight FDA-cleared ultrasound products for women's health, veterinary medicine and point-of-care.
The UGEO WS80A received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is commercially available. It was released globally last year.
