Poste : Le centre du proton de NYC premier se dirige pour Harlem

par Brendon Nafziger, DOTmed News Associate Editor | August 10, 2012
New York City's first proton therapy center might be coming to Harlem.

The New York Post reports that a consortium of local hospitals and a Florida radiation oncology group are eyeing a car dealership at East 127th street and 2nd Avenue as the home for the proposed cancer-fighting venture. The groups have signed a letter of intent with the owner of the space, the Post said.

The New York Proton Center partnership previously looked at sites in Midtown and the Upper East Side, but those deals fell through. Another Harlem location was also ruled out because the shape of the space wouldn't work with the center's technical requirements, the Post said.

The proton consortium includes 21st Century Oncology, based in Florida, and local hospitals Beth Israel Medical Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center and NYU Langone Medical Center.

The center is expected to be running in the next three or four years, according to the Post.
