The Food and Drug Administration has cleared Konica Minolta Medical Imaging's latest direct radiography flat panel detector, the company said in an announcement Tuesday.

The new 17 x 17 inch wireless panel, called Aero DR Wireless, fits 17 x 17 cassette sizes in existing bucky trays and wall stands, the company said. The panel weighs 7.92 pounds and features a Konica Minolta-built cesium iodide scintillator.

The device, which debuted in November at the Radiological Society of North America's annual meeting in Chicago, can both retrofit older models and be used in new room purchases, Konica Minolta said. An earlier wireless 14 x 17 inch Aero DR panel was released at RSNA in 2010.
