A registry
launched by the American College of Radiology last May to help radiologists compare CT scan doses has already received more than 1 million scans.
ACR said Tuesday its Dose Index Registry also now has 326 registered facilities, including private practices, hospitals and academic medical centers.
Richard L. Morin, chair of the DIR, said with 1 million scans the group is now "well on our way" to setting up national benchmarks that facilities will be able to use to compare their CT doses against similar facilities across the country.

"The tremendous interest and participation we've seen to date shows that medical imaging providers are committed to optimizing the radiation dose that their patients receive from CT scans," Morin said in a statement.
According to a list kept on the DIR website, numerous scanners made by Siemens, GE and Philips have all transmitted files to the registry, including GE LightSpeed, Philips Brilliance and Siemens Somatom models.
