Please advise;P.>Mmanent magnet

December 31, 2005 03:28

We are looking forward to installing a P.M. magnet MRI unit in New Jersey, something similar to Hitachi 7000 or 5000.
Can someone please comment on the reliability, maintenance of these machines?
1. Are the parts for these machines readily available?
2. Is GE better than Hitahci when it comes to service?
Will someone be able to provide a service contrect?

Hitachi 7000 would be the magnet with the best images and reliablity of those mentioned....

I would stay away from the 5000 and the GE...

Russ is correct. Until only recently Hitachi has ruled the open MRI market with the best quality systems available. Recently we are starting to see some new open systems that are giving them a run for their money, but these units are not yet available on the used equipment market.

Between the 7000 and 5000, the 7000 is a very good machine. Highly reliable with good image quality. The 5000 is a little behind the times in capabilities for the current U.S. imaging market. Also it is only a 0.2T system. The difference between .2 and .3 might not sound like much, but when you're dealing with lower field systems, this increase is huge. Even with that said, I still know of several MRP-5000 systems that are still doing well in their "established" communities (8 studies + per day).

Hitachi also has the AIRIS and AIRIS II systems available on the used equipment market. These systems are better than the 7000 in capabilities, but not necessarily in image quality. Although it is imporatnt to know that there are trade-offs between the various systems.

Depending on your situation any Hitachi machine would be an excellent purchase for open MRI.

As far as parts and service goes, be aware that Hitachi has done an excellent job at keeping this business in their pocket. Although there are a handfull of people out their that can do this correctly for you. Some are Hitachi trained and experienced, others have figured it out on their own.

If I can be of service to you let me know.
