IDE stands for Intelligent/Integrated Drive Electronics. An IDE interface is for mass storage devices, e.g. hard disk drive, ZIP drive, CD-ROM drive, DVD-ROM drive, CD/DVD burners, etc. A simple internal floppy disk drive is NOT a mass storage device. For more technical advices concerning computer and OEC9600, contact me at edwardhyan@yahoo.com.
OEC9600 workstation has a 3.5" floppy disk drive, uses 1.44MB disk for image backup and level 2 diagnostic access. This floppy disk drive is interfaced to the AT motherboard. The motherboard has a 20386SX CPU. It has a built-in standard floppy disk drive controller.
The 40MB hard disk drive has a C:\ partition [10MB] for DOS & Application software, and a D:\ partition [30MB] for 100 image storage. The hard disk drive is interfaced to the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller at the motherboard.
There is no USB port in the old AT mother board - not in the XT mother board, not in my old Commodore 64, not in my TI/99.
There are several advanced versions of OEC 9600 workstations: ESP with 4f/s, Vascular with 30f/s, Surgical Platform, ESP/Cholangiography, ESP/Acquire, ESP Vascular, Neuro-Vascular. The floppy disk drive 00-900669-01 and built-in controller remains the same. The 20386SX AT motherboard remains the same. For ESP with 4f/s, IDE interface/IDE hard disk drive is not used, instead it uses a SCSI disk controller and an ALTA IPI Master SCSI controller with a SCSI hard disk drive. For 30f/s, it adds an ALTA IPI Slave SCSI controller with a second SCSI hard disk drive. For other advanced versions, the keyboards are different and added two Control Panels and other minor components. I have manuals for 9000, 9400, 9600 and Uroview 1000 and 2600.
