ge hispeed collimator characterization problem
March 28, 2007 12:28
I am having problems regarding the collimator characterization of a GE hispeed. When we input the values of the collimator with its CRC, the system tells us that the data is invalid and download of collimator characterization failed. Much more, I have an ST41800K highspeed disk which is bad sectorized. I formatted the disk to isolate the bad block but when I do an SBC reconfig, the system shows errors at the end of the reconfig process (e.g. at the successfully opened part there are lines of read/write error)I want to replace the hard drive to an ST32550N which is a SCSI hdd, do you think this would be possible? I have to remove the xylogics controller isn't it? Are there any jumpers I have to add or remove from the back plane of the SRU? Anyone who have done and experienced this before? Thanks.

Can you go to application level? try restore configuration from system state tape or
may be the values are incorrect. the right values are printed in the collimator cover.
if you will install SCSI ST32550 , you need only set address jumper on the HDD to "0" for sbc disk and reload software.

Yes I could go to application level but I could not go to the mechanical characterization menu. The system tells me that scan hardware is being used and I could not change values. Before, when we haven't replaced the ST41800K, I could go to characterization. However, eventhough I input the values of the collimator found on the face plate, the system does not accept its original values. I have a G3 collimator type and reloaded a 1.6 software. Do you think my software is compatible with my G3 collimator?
I found out on the service manual that there are jumpers to be installed on the vme backplane upon removal of the xylogics board. Although I followed these instructions and upon installation of the ST32550N HDD, I am having an HSD-High Speed Disk open function failed. I set the jumper on SCSI ID1 following the jumper setting of our another existing GE HSA CT Scan. My LSD is an ST31051N and my OC disk is also ST31051N. My configuration is an HSA-RP Subsystem.

If you are replacing the existing collimator with a repaired one, you need to enter the data, including CRC, from the new collimator's face plate. If Characterization fails, your new collimator is most likely bad. There should be no reason for you to re-input the values for a collimator that is not being replaced. That data is stored in the config file and saved on the State Tape.
