Laser Locators Welcomes Back Dr. James Wynne to Discuss his Latest Research “Smart Scalpel”

Tampa, FL – March 31, 2016 – Laser Locators, a world-wide leader selling ophthalmic lasers and diagnostic equipment, is pleased to welcome back Dr. James Wynne to discuss his new findings with his procedure, “smart scalpel”.  This procedure uses excimer lasers to remove necrotic lesions of skin, including burn eschar, without causing collateral damage to the tissue. “Smart Scalpel”, was most recently tested on a Yorkshire pig, as a way to imitate human skin, and its findings were successful and much less painful than procedures currently used for burn wounds.

After attending the University of South Florida as Keynote Speaker for the Tampa Bay STEM Summit on March 30, 2016, Dr. Wynne, IBM physicist and world-renowned inventor, enjoyed lunch with the staff of Laser Locators and went into further detail on his steps to get the “smart scalpel” used in wound care centers, burn units, and M.A.S.H. units worldwide. With the invention of LASIK and PRK, which are practiced around the world and as a result have improved the vision of more than 25 million people, Dr. Wynne has found a non-thermal process of laser radiation to take place of the current procedure in place. His results found that the ArF excimer, purchased by Dr. Wynne at Laser Locators, can eliminate eschar with minimal or no damage to underlying dermis at three days post-burn injury. This finding sped healing up to 10 days post-burn and the burned skin was shown to be healing excellently.

Dr. Wynne has reached out for military funding along with a medical organization to collaborate with him on the project. His findings are another example of how cross-disciplinary research could lead to a major breakthrough that could help millions of people.

Dr. Wynne has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, won the R. W. Wood Prize of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and awarded the Rank Prize for Opto-Electronics in 2010. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He is the author of numerous articles and scientific journals and the holder of 12 U.S. patents, including several in laser dentistry and laser dermatology, and has received numerous Outstanding Innovation Awards throughout his career at IBM.

Laser Locators Goes All Out Giving Back During the Holiday Season

Tampa, FL – December 28, 2015 – Laser Locators, a world-wide leader selling ophthalmic lasers and diagnostic equipment, spent the entire month of December taking on large community outreach projects that touched dozens of children and families.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the holidays than giving back to the community. I am grateful for my generous and hardworking team who helped make all of this possible,” said Sean O’Donnell, President and CEO of Laser Locators. Over the course of December, the Laser Locators team managed to take on five impactful outreach projects.

Laser Locators kicked off their season of giving by making over 20 care packages for the troops in Afghanistan, along with hand-written thank you letters for each soldier receiving a package. Each bundle contained more than 25 items ranging from books, neck pillows, cards, snacks, Christmas decorations, t-shirts, pens, stationery, puzzles and toiletries. Additionally, Laser Locators also donated t-shirts and gift cards to active duty service personnel based in the United States. They were able to use the gift cards to buy groceries, toiletries or presents for their families.

For their next project, Laser Locators adopted for the holidays, four classrooms of students at Potter Elementary, which incidentally is one of the lowest poverty schools in the nation, yet based right here in Hillsborough County. Each student received a new toy (wrapped by the entire team at Laser Locators) that accounted for over 80 gifts hand delivered by Santa and his elf “Happy” to spread some Christmas cheer to the boys and girls.

It didn’t stop there. Laser Locators continued their month of giving by purchasing several items from the Humane Society’s Wish List. These items were overflowing across eight large baskets and included treats, blankets, food, kitty litter and toys. Several team members took time out of their busy schedule to deliver all these goodies and take a tour of the facility. They were able to spend some time with many of the animals, meet the staff and volunteers whose lives they would touch through the donations.

To top it all off, the Laser Locators team hand-made 12 blankets and donated them to “Hands Across the Bay”, an organization founded by Julie Weintraub, that helps families who have fallen on hard times. Some members of the Laser Locators team personally delivered the blankets to Melissa Dohme, Dimitra Mantzaris and Steve Weintraub at Gold and Diamond Source, who are all affiliated with Hands Across the Bay, so that they in turn could deliver the soft blankets to families in need.

“It was an amazing experience, seeing the difference we made in just one short month. I only hope that what we inspired others to pay it forward this holiday season as well,” said Danielle Bruno the Director of Operations of Laser Locators.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal (TBBJ) recently sat down with our President and CEO Sean O’Donnell to profile the recent successes of Laser Locators for their online video series, theExecutive Files. Our company had a great time working with Alexis Muellner from the Journal, and Rob Tiisler at Company Man Studios, who filmed our interview providing insight on our business success, future strategies and community involvement. The final video product will be available on the TBBJ website in the coming weeks.

2015 has been a tremendous year for Laser Locators as we’ve been recognized as both an Inc. 5000 company for being one of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S, and honored as a Fast 50 company in the Tampa Bay area.

“It’s an honor to see our work recognized by such revered organizations,” said O’Donnell.  “I’m especially proud of our team who’s worked tirelessly over the years to provide our customers with the best products and service possible.”

On staff at Laser Locators are two laser technicians (Wilder Robles and Adan Reyes) who are certified by Visiometrics (the manufacturer of the HD Analyzer) to conduct the installation which includes equipment, laptop and software setup.

“After being in the Ophthalmology industry for 25 years, it’s exciting to witness advancements and innovation. The corneal implant device, KAMRA, developed by AcuFocus brings new opportunity to the industry as well as ophthalmic patients. We’re excited to be a part of that,” said Sean O’Donnell, President & CEO of Laser Locators.

Visit from Dr. James Wynne, Who Co-Invented Technology That Underlies LASIK Surgery

After visiting our headquarters, Dr. James Wynne, IBM physicist and world-renowned inventor, spoke at the University of South Florida about his latest endeavor “Smart Scalpel.” This is a procedure using excimer lasers to debride char from the skin of burn victims without causing further damage. It is much less painful than what is used today for burn wounds. We’re excited about the new business opportunities that we have planned with Dr. Wynne and we look forward to his next visit to our office very soon.

Tampa, FL – February 10, 2015 – Laser Locators, a leading seller of ophthalmic lasers and diagnostic equipment, recently launched a nationwide training initiative. Designed to strengthen their presence across the United States, this initiative focuses on the LightMed brand of ophthalmic lasers.  In late January, Laser Locators began its expansion efforts in St. Louis, where a training session with new sales partners served as the basis for increased sales and service of LightMed products throughout the Midwestern U.S. They will also host training sessions at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery symposium in San Diego, CA. (April 17-21.)

Laser Locators is the exclusive distributor of LightMed products in the United States. In an effort to reach more customers and continue to provide superior service, Laser Locators is partnering with companies throughout the country to sell LightMed products.

To enhance the effectiveness of these partnerships, Laser Locator has launched comprehensive training sessions for their new sales partners. The training sessions, led by Joey Colarulo, Director of Sales for Laser Locators, will give detailed descriptions of LightMed products, provide market comparisons with competing models, discuss configuration options, show the benefits of the products and offer strategies for selling LightMed.

“As we continue to grow our brand and the LightMed brand, I feel it is important to bolster our sales and service personnel with some of the top representatives and technicians in our industry.  This allows us to serve our clients more efficiently,” said Colarulo. “We believe that these training sessions will grow awareness of the quality of LightMed products and give our partners the expertise required to be successful at selling and servicing LightMed SLT Lasers.”
