U.S. researchers created a human embryo by storing frozen ovarian tissue from a 30-year-old breast cancer patient. The tissue began producing estrogen and new eggs just three months after being transplanted just beneath the skin in the woman's abdomen.

"She's still producing eggs and it's more than a year later," reports Dr. Kutluk Oktay, of the Center for Reproductive Medicine and Infertility of New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

"It's not going to change the world, but it's taking something people having been thinking about for four or five years and actually made it work," says Dr. Roger Pierson, director of the Reproductive Biology Research Unit at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
