Three components to the strategy include a standardized vendor-neutral archive, an intelligent digital image communication in medicine gateway, and a universal viewer. It goes beyond archiving in PACS because it creates a central and uniform system that holds the lifecycle of all images from each silo across multiple PACS, sites and specialties.
Agfa Healthcare's ICIS and Sectra's Enterprise Image Management are a couple of the systems showcased at the show that enable this type of strategy.

5. We don't want more work. While HIT can sound like the perfect solution to health care's problems, many experts in the field stressed the importance of making the tools as easy to use as possible.
"Doctors are incredibly sensitive to more work," said Dr. Jonathan Niloff, executive medical director of population management at McKesson Corporation, during a panel discussion on value-based reimbursement.
McKesson highlighted its Qualitative Intelligence Communication System at the show for this reason, which brings different aspects of quality to the end-user in an automated workflow.
