DOTmed: Please outline the scope of this project.
The 100,000-square-foot hospital at 325 Cypress Parkway in Kissimmee, Fla. can't be classified as Polk County's sixth hospital. Its buildings are just across the county line in Osceola.

Its front sign is in Polk, however, and it definitely will be treating some residents from the Polk side of Poinciana and other parts of East Polk.

Other patients will come from that large group of Poinciana residents in Osceola. Unincorporated Poinciana has villages in both counties.

Hospital Corporation of America created the Poinciana hospital, which cost $65 million and is expected to have about 200 full-time employees. The hospital is two stories with the ability to add a third. Six of its beds are in the intensive care unit and 24 are private medical-surgical beds. There's also a full-time emergency department.

DOTmed: How will this project help the community you serve?
Some area residents lobbied state officials to allow a hospital in Poinciana. They said the drive to other hospitals, such as Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center in Haines City, took too long — almost an hour for some of them.

DOTmed: What does the timeline to completion look like?
PMC will open July 29, 2013.
