Epic won overall in software, while DR Systems took the top spot in the PACS category for the second year in a row in KLAS' annual ranking of the best-performing health IT vendors.

The 2011 Best in KLAS Awards, announced Dec. 15, are an annual tradition dating back to 1998, in which the Orem, Utah research firm ranks IT software and service vendors based upon feedback from health care providers. KLAS said it conducted 18,000 interviews for the current report.

Once again, Epic emerged as the top-ranked software vendor overall, scoring 87.1 out of 100, KLAS said. Epic's products won in at least seven categories, including Acute Care EMR (EpicCare Inpatient EMR), Ambulatory EMR (EpicCare Ambulatory EMR) and Radiology (Epic Radiant). Epic has been the top-ranked software vendor on the KLAS awards since at least 2008. Last year, it scored an 86.7 in overall performance.
