Hello,
I just recently received a used Puritan Bennett 840 Ventilator from a govt. auction in my area, but when I first plugged it in and turned it on, dust and cobwebs blew out of the inspiratory connector and a strong musty smell came from the inside of it along with the dust. I have a feeling this machine had been in storage for a while before I got it from the auction and whoever owned the Ventilator previous must have not stored it properly. I wonder how this happened and what should be done to clean out any more foreign debris from the Ventilator.
That is strange. I think I would tear down and take a closer look. Definitely change the air and O2 filters (10K kit). I would suspect any and all flow modules. Once thats done running EST would would give you an idea of the condition of the P-SOLS, pressures, etc.

Thank you so much,
I do not know at all why someone would neglect a Ventilator like that, especially one as good and advanced as a PB 840!
