Wanted test equipment for new charitable laboratory Vanuatu

December 21, 2011 09:01

Hello,
Please, your help is required.

We are in the process of setting up a new non-profit Charitable Association Medical Laboratory in Port Vila, Vanuatu to provide rapid testing. Being a 3rd world country with the government hospital in poor condition and only able to do minor and not very accurate testing, a new specialised laboratory is urgently needed. Nearly all tests required now are taken every Wednesday and then sent out to either Australia or New Zealand. This is certainly not very satisfactory. Sometimes tests are lost or not sent out and left to sit for a couple of day and results can take anything up to a week to get back.

We ask and really hope you may be able assist us in sourcing as a donation or for a small fee, (we will pay freight costs) any items of laboratory equipment that you think may be suitable for our Medical Laboratory. We certainly do not expect anything to be up to date but we want something that works, not costly to run, easy for parts and repairs and which will provide an accurate reading. Should you know of or have or have any clients that may have any equipment that may be of use, we would be most interested to hear from you or them. Please not that any item must be 240v

Just so you are aware, I am not a doctor or pathologist but a local 63 year old Australian expat who had a very bad heart attack on 31st December 2009 followed by 2 separate cardiac arrests some 18 months ago. Without doubt if it was not for our local non-profit volunteer ambulance service and one exceptional volunteer doctor, I would not be alive today. They provide an excellent service to both expats and the local Ni-Vanuatu people and once up and running this very worthy laboratory service will be no different.

We really hope you can assist in one way or another and look forward to an early reply. Email; desherar@vanuatu.com.vu or phone; +(678) 7751411

Best regards
David Sherar
