"Caveat Emptor" -- A Phrase That Never Goes Out of Style

Don't get bitten by a
bad deal -- check references
on buyers and sellers alike.
Point. Click. Buy. DOTmed makes buying used medical equipment and parts that easy. And while DOTmed has certainly expanded your market - even taken it global - as you cast a wider net, don't be too surprised if along with your fresh catch, you occasionally find a nasty shark on deck.

With over 60,000 registering users from around the world - and hundreds more joining weekly - DOTmed is bound to have a few bad apples - that's just a fact of life.

In other words, "caveat emptor." Sifting through the good, bad and ugly in potential customers can be difficult. But savvy businesses invest the time and scrutiny necessary at the outset of a business relationship, knowing that one deal gone bad can wreak havoc on their bottom line.

So how do you avoid getting bitten by those sharks who insist the "check's in the mail," or the unscrupulous sellers whose equipment gets "lost in transit"? By getting all the background info you can on a business.

DOTmed makes concerted efforts to sift out dishonest people, offering users a variety of screening tools, and you can see many of them by looking up a company in our Services Directory. Check there to see if the potential client is DOTmed Certified, where members provide references, sign a code of ethics and agree to binding arbitration in disputes. If they're a DOTmed 100 company, other users have given them strong positive ratings for honest dealings. If they've been Blacklisted, that's a definite "no go" sign. DOTmed users who violate basic business ethics can and will be Blacklisted, and we leave their names up for all to see.

Also read DOTmed's Honest/Dishonest Forum regularly. There, all users have a chance to voice opinion, solicit references, and address grievances.

DOTmed makes its best effort to investigate alleged problems and ensure good business for all its members, and next week we will be reporting on several alleged incidents of serious fraud. And we hope you check these reports out for yourself.

But as always, it is up to individual businesses to make use of DOTmed tools along with their own style of screening clients to keep the sharks off deck and their business in shipshape condition.
