AIRS Medical brings scan time reduction AI to lower-field MR via FONAR

Through a new partnership with FONAR Corporation, AI software provider AIRS Medical has made its SwiftMR application available for low field strength MR systems.

The company’s deep learning technology reduces scanning time by up to 50% while using AI to de-noise and improve image quality. The software communicates directly and automatically with the PACS systems to improve performance across entire MR fleets.

FONAR, which launched the first commercial MR system in 1980, today has a flagship system, its 0.6T FONAR UPRIGHT MR scanner, which captures scans in an open magnet that can assess patients in sitting, standing, upright flexion, extension, lateral bending, rotation, and recumbent positions. Because it can scan all body parts with the normal weight of the body on the spine and other joints, it produces a more accurate diagnosis.

“We expect that this agreement, leveraging FONAR's 45 years of expertise and capabilities, will bolster various aspects of our business operations in the U.S. market for SwiftMR, including sales, marketing, and even research collaborations,” said Kevin Yang, head of AIRS Medical's U.S. operations and clinical research, in a statement.

AIRS Medical scored FDA clearance for SwiftMR in 2021 and introduced it at that year’s Radiological Society of North America conference, in Chicago. Its reduction of scanning times cuts long waits for scanning and prevents radiologists from having to stop scanning early to accommodate patients.

Earlier this year, the FDA expanded its use to to all body parts, all pulse sequences, and all scanner models with 0.25T, 0.6T, 1.5T, and 3.0T.

AIRS Medical will showcase SwiftMR and discuss its use in neuroradiology at this year’s RSNA meeting.
