We are pleased to announce Matthew Bizzarro, MD has been named Chief Medical Officer (CMO), YaleNew Haven Children's Hospital effective October 9, 2023.

Dr. Bizzarro is also a Professor of Pediatrics and the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics. He previously served as the Medical Director of the Yale Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Network, the Medical Director for the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital (YNHCH) NICU, the NICU Transport Team, and the Director of the Pediatric Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital.

Dr. Bizzarro received his MD from Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School before completing residency at New York University School of Medicine. He then came to Yale School of Medicine (YSM) as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and joined the faculty at Yale Pediatrics in 2005. In June, the Connecticut Hospital Association awarded Dr. Bizzarro and members of the YNHCH NICU with its annual John D. Thompson Award for achievement of innovation and excellence in patient care using data, as demonstrated by the improvement of internal operations and procedures.

Dr. Bizzarro was previously awarded the David J. Leffell Prize for Clinical Excellence and the Mae Gailani Junior Faculty Teaching Award from Yale School of Medicine, in recognition of uncompromising dedication to research and patient care, among many others. In 2009, he was also awarded the Norman J. Siegal Award, given to the member of the faculty who consistently surpasses the highest standards of patient care, generous collegiality, and leadership by example. Dr. Bizzarro is a trusted leader at YSM
and YNHCH.

As CMO at YNHCH, Dr. Bizzarro will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the hospital's clinical services, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and clinical excellence. He will collaborate closely with the executive leadership team, department heads, and medical staff to drive innovation, advance research, and deliver outstanding healthcare outcomes for patients of the Children’s Hospital and Health System.

Dr. Bogue, the inaugural CMO of Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, will continue as Chair of Pediatrics at YSM and Chief of Pediatrics, Yale New Haven Health System. Dr. Steven Peterec will assume the role of Medical Director of the Yale NICU Network. Dr. Bizzarro will work closely with Dr. Bogue, Cynthia Sparer and Dr. Michael Caty, Surgeon-in-Chief in leading the continued growth of Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.
