For the next 10 years, GE HealthCare will deploy hundreds of imaging solutions at University Hospitals (UH), in Cleveland, equipping its radiology practice and UH Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute with AI-enabled technologies to speed up scan times, clarity, and productivity.
The solutions include scanners for nuclear medicine, X-ray, vascular and cardiovascular ultrasound, CT, fluoroscopy, surgery, and bone densitometry. GE HealthCare will continually update AI and software to extend the life of the scanners and maximize performance and uptime for better throughput, as part of its Smart Subscription service.
It will also optimize the management of the scanners with its digital Command Center solution, which will create a cloud-based digital hub for UH’s radiology department and streamline daily management across its network hospitals. This, says the company, will help UH identify scheduling and authentication issues, improve inpatient coordination, decrease downtime associated with fleet maintenance, and reduce radiology-related patient excess days in the hospital.

UH has a network of 21 hospitals (including five joint ventures), 50 health centers and outpatient facilities, and 200 physician offices in 16 counties in Northern Ohio. Its flagship academic medical center, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Northeast Ohio Medical University, Oxford University, the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, and National Taiwan University College of Medicine.
With GE HealthCare, UH will standardize and automate protocols for its CT fleet, as well as improve utilization and reduce downtime for its imaging systems in all of its locations. It will also use GE HealthCare’s technology to train technologists, students, and physicians on various imaging modalities.
The company previously agreed to
install a fleet of 21 AI-powered CT systems at St. Luke’s University Health Network over the next four years for $30 million, making it the largest CT order on record for the company and the most expansive for St. Luke’s.
