With out-of-hospital care sites performing more cardiac-related procedures, among others traditionally done in hospitals, Philips is expanding the equipment and resources need to perform and personalize this type of care in these facilities by combining its SymphonySuite solutions with devices designed by BIOTRONIK.
The two companies say that offering their products together will provide cardiovascular office-based labs (OBLs) and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) additional equipment combinations for personalizing care, which is more prevalent in outpatient settings like these. They also have a lower risk of hospital-acquired infections, along with reduced overhead and capital costs, which translates to lower costs for patients.
SymphonySuite provides solutions for OBLs and ASCs, including fixed and mobile C-arms, IVUS, iFR/FFR solutions, ultrasound systems, and patient monitors, as well as financial and business consulting options, training opportunities, service agreements, and clinical and technical support.
BIOTRONIK designs solutions for cardiac rhythm management, cardiovascular intervention, and peripheral vascular intervention, including coronary scaffold and stent systems, drug-coated balloons, catheters and sheaths, and insertible cardiac monitors.
"We expect that more and more complex procedures will continue to move into out-of-hospital sites of care. Our goal is to stay ahead of the shift, so that more patients can benefit from our offering," Chris DeCarolis, head of procedural solutions for image-guided therapy at Philips, told HCB News.
The partnership follows a recent announcement by BIOTRONIK of the
first global implant of its BIOMONITOR IV implantable cardiac monitor, which reduces false positive detections, and is the only ICM that can distinguish premature atrial contractions from premature ventricular contractions.
Philips recently
unveiled its Ultrasound Compact 5500CV at the 2023 American Society of Echocardiography event, in Maryland, a portable compact unit that provides the same image quality and echocardiography workflows in cart-based systems.
