Capitol Imaging Services has expanded its stake in Houston's outpatient imaging market with its acquisitions of Houston Premier Radiology Center and Alliance MRI.

The radiology service company announced the deals, which took place in February and May, respectively, on June 15, saying that it now is providing MR, CT, PET/CT, and mammography scans in over 40 facilities across the Gulf South.

In October 2020, investment firm Clearview Capital spent $550 million to recapitalize Capitol Imaging, doubling its number of outpatient imaging facilities, and expanding its services beyond Alabama and Louisiana into Texas, Florida, and Mississippi.

Together, Houston Premier Radiology Center and Alliance MRI make up 10 locations in Houston. “We see significant opportunities to further accelerate our growth, both in Greater Houston as one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. and elsewhere in the Gulf South region,” said John Stagg, CEO of Capitol Imaging, in a statement.

Over the last few years, Houston has become a popular location for the radiology industry. In 2020, United Imaging, a China-based medical imaging manufacturer, opened its 91,000-square-foot factory and expanded service complex there for assembling and shipping products, describing it as a strategic location.

And the year before, SOFIE, a molecular imaging and theranostic company, based in Los Angeles, entered the market by acquiring Cyclotope Radiopharmacy from Houston Cyclotron Partners.

Financial details for both of Capitol Imaging's acquisitions were not disclosed.
