West Central Florida’s BayCare Health System has opened a new state-of-the-art hospital in Wesley Chapel to provide emergency services to Pasco County residents and neighboring Hernando Counties.

Construction for the 86-bed, 318,000-square-foot facility began in December 2020 and included the design of an emergency department and an intensive care unit that has virtual-monitoring beds. The facility also offers diagnostic imaging and lab services, and performs surgical procedures, including robotic surgery, urology, and wound care.

The hospital is the 16th to be opened by BayCare, which invested $246 million into its design and construction and hired hundreds of team members to work there.

"This facility will expand access to convenient and high-quality care and address the needs of that growing community,” said BayCare CEO and president Stephanie Conners in a statement.

Among the services the hospital will provide are breast health, diabetes, endocrinology, gastroenterology, heart and vascular care, interventional radiology, orthopedics, primary care, pulmonology and respiratory care, rehabilitation, and ear, nose and throat procedures, according to the Wesley Chapel Community website.

BayCare is the largest provider of behavioral health and pediatric services in West Florida, and its provider group, BayCare Medical Group, is one of the largest in the region. In addition to its hospitals, it has hundreds of other locations across the Tampa Bay and central Florida regions.

It already provides Pasco County with behavioral health, home health services, physician offices, and other ambulatory services at its other 15 hospitals across the region.

The health system’s network of ambulatory services includes laboratories, imaging, surgical centers, BayCare Urgent Care locations, wellness centers and one of Florida's largest home care agencies, BayCare HomeCare.

Additionally, it offers a Medicare Advantage insurance plan, BayCarePlus, which has a five-star rating and has been ranked in the top 20% by Fortune/Merative.
