Baylor Scott & White hospital is preparing to begin work on a new $265 million hospital in North Frisco, Texas that is slated to be completed by May 2025.

The health system filed paperwork for the construction with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, with a starting date set for March 1, 2023, according to local news outlet Community Impact.

The facility will be nearly 340,000 square feet, designed by Dallas-based architectural firm HKS Inc.

“As this region is one of the fastest growing in the country, and as we have served its families for more than 15 years, we have been exploring for many months how to keep pace with the area’s explosive growth,” a spokesperson for Baylor Scott & White told Community Impact.

The hospital will be located at the northeast corner of PGA Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway. The property was rezoned in 2022 to prepare for construction.

Baylor Scott & White Health has multiple facilities in Frisco, including a sports medicine facility at The Star, a medical center, and another on Lebanon Road.

Six of its micro-hospitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were acquired in September by Rethink Healthcare Real Estate in a joint venture with global real estate management firm Heitman for $58.9 million. Together, the properties made up 189,385 square feet.

Alternatives to large hospitals, micro-hospitals are located in underserved areas that lack the resources to support a full-service facility. The six were located in Burleson, Colleyville, Keller, Murphy, Rockwall and Grand Prairie, with Rethink Healthcare Real Estate saying that it was under contract to acquire a seventh one.

The largest not-for-profit health system in Texas, Baylor Scott & White Health is made up of 51 hospitals and more than 1,100 access points, including flagship academic medical centers in Dallas, Fort Worth and Temple. It cares for more than three million patients.
