Trinity Health has acquired a majority ownership stake in Premier Health to expand its urgent care support services
Trinity Health, a multi-institutional Catholic healthcare system, has acquired a majority stake in Premier Health to expand its emergency care services and improve access to care.

The deal pairs Trinity with an experienced urgent care operator that facilitates access to care by forming health system-branded, joint venture partnerships with local providers.

“Patients will benefit from a seamless, coordinated care experience between urgent care, primary care and other services within the communities we serve together,” said Dr. Dan Roth, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for Trinity Health, in a statement.

Premier will operate approximately 20 existing urgent care locations owned by Trinity. Premier, which already runs more than 70 urgent care clinics across seven states, plans to double this number across several states over the next few years, with the new clinics connected to Trinity and other local health systems. The aim will be to provide care integrated with appropriate follow-up and primary care services.

Premier-managed urgent care clinics will operate under the brand of the local health system partner, and provide convenient, on-demand care. They will be equipped to treat more conditions and ailments, compared to traditional retail clinics, according to Premier.

“With Trinity Health as a strategic partner, Premier Health will move forward with an ambitious growth plan that will more than double our nationwide urgent care footprint with locations in at least 20 states,” said Steve Sellars, chief executive officer of Premier Health.

Trinity Health is based in Livonia, Michigan, and consists of 92 hospitals and 100 continuing care locations that serve more than 30 million people across 22 states. Premier Health is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
