Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and Royal Philips have entered a seven-year strategic partnership to transform the healthcare system into a state-of-the-art healthcare facility which they say will improve efficiencies and lower costs. So far, the pair says it has invested more than 1,000 hours on technology replacement planning and performed over 400 clinical staff interviews.

TGH, a 1,006-⁠bed facility and one of the largest hospitals in the U.S., will receive the latest software packages, healthcare informatics, unique workflow solutions and high-⁠level consulting from Philips. The hospital will also replace all bedside patient and vital sign monitors and upgrade key imaging equipment in its catheterization laboratories and interventional radiology rooms.

A new standardized platform will give doctors and clinicians a better overall view of their patient so they can make better diagnostic and treatment decisions, and cloud-⁠based technologies, such as Philips PerformanceBridge, will be installed to give users a view to all their diagnostic equipment.

It means taking the time to truly understand their patients’ needs and suggest solutions that can address their workflow and service line needs today, while planning for tomorrow.”

In the September issue of Healthcare Business News, Dr. Arjen Radder, general manager for MR at Philips says the Quadruple Aim is guiding the future of MR and that healthcare in general is undergoing two fundamental transformations. “First, from a system based on rewarding volume and patient throughput to one focused on value and long-term health outcomes,” he said. “Second, digitalization, where managing and securing insights from data becomes key, both for the diagnosis and treatment of each patient and for the operational management of the system as a whole.”

TGH President and CEO John Couris says the new partnership with Philips is a pivotal move that he thinks will push the hospital to new heights. “This partnership allows us to stay on the leading edge of technology for many years to come, in a cost-⁠effective way,” Couris said. “Tampa General’s vision is to become the safest and most innovative academic health system in America, and long-⁠term commitments like this one will help us achieve that vision.”
