The DRX-Compass X-ray System enables providers to add components on a need-by-need basis to facilitate a timely transition to digital imaging based on their budgets.
Carestream Health has a new X-ray system on the market that enables providers to more easily transition from analog or retrofitted X-ray rooms to digital imaging.

Known as the DRX-Compass X-ray System, the fully digital unit can easily adapt to space requirements and comes with a set of advanced features, as well as additional capabilities that can be added over time on a need-by-need basis and based on each individual facility's budget.

"Studies have shown patient dose reductions using DR over CR and film; exam times will be quicker for the Radiologic Technologists and images will be delivered instantly, ensuring the technologist has everything the doctor may need," Steve Romocki, worldwide product line manager for radiology systems at Carestream, told HCB News. "The DRX-Compass User Interface is intuitive and was developed with Radiographers during every step of the process to make the transition easier."

The solution is designed to decrease setup time and increase throughput for each facility. Equipped to enable easy positioning, it offers vertical auto-tracking and auto-centering, and has an optional tilting wall stand to support a wide range of exams. Patients who have trouble standing or young children who are unable to hold still for long periods of time can also be scanned with the DRX-Compass through the use of its auto long-length imaging option.

The system’s intuitive, graphical user interface allows technicians to learn how to use it in less time than other systems and comes with a secure, swipe-and-go login. It also uses the current version of Carestream’s ImageView clinical acquisition software, which is powered by Eclipse Imaging processing and enhances productivity and patient care securely in a single platform. It is this software platform that enables facilities to add on more capabilities over time.

The scanner is expected to benefit community, rural and private hospitals, as well as urgent care centers, and orthopaedic and large radiology practices, all of which would use different components of the system from one another based on their diverse needs.

"For instance," said Romocki, "an orthopaedic center may prefer to only use the wall stand or focus on long-length imaging placement of components. We offer an option of a wall stand with a -20/+90 degrees [option] for easy patient positioning, wheel chair access, as well as a stretcher table. The customer can build this system to their needs based on exam types and the facility's size."

The DRX-Compass X-ray System was developed for mid-tier hospitals and medical imaging centers worldwide. Its conception was based on Carestream customer feedback.
