IMRIS and Siemens partner to advance
in growing hybrid OR neurosurgical market
IMRIS, Deerfield Imaging, is pairing up with Siemens Healthineers in an effort to elevate both their positions in the growing multimodality hybrid OR neurosurgical market.

Looking to seize upon additional customer opportunities, the image-guided therapy provider has agreed to support the sale of both its ceiling-mounted solutions and the fixed options offered by its German-based colleague for MR, CT and angiography, to address patient needs more swiftly and effectively.

"We have strengthened our long-standing relationship with IMRIS to increase our joint visibility into potential customer opportunities, with the goal of offering more robust products and services for the surgical suite as well as improving our collective success rates," Murat Gungor, senior vice president of diagnostic imaging at Siemens Healthineers North America, said in a statement. "A necessary first step in achieving these goals is to present a united front to our customers, which, in turn, will enable us to address their needs more quickly and effectively."

Use of either IMRIS’ moving ceiling-mounted intraoperative iMRI or iCT imaging modalities gives neurosurgeons the ability to view critical anatomical details while patients lie on the operating table.

Their mobility enables surgeons to avoid the time-consuming and difficult task of moving patients in and out of the operating room and then repositioning them, providing greater precision and accuracy during surgery. It also reduces the need for additional operations as well as the risk of complications associated with moving the patient.

For iMRI, efficiency is further strengthened by the rollout of IMRIS’ multi-functional operating room table for cranial and upper-cervical intraoperative MR procedures, which allows neurosurgeons to perform intraoperative imaging with the patient in the original surgical position, minimizing risk of infection and reducing operating times. Making its debut in May, the product is now up and running in many hospitals, including in the IMRIS Surgical Theatre at Boston Children’s Hospital.

"Today's announcement with industry leader Siemens Healthineers provides both companies the opportunity to better meet the needs of the expanding hybrid OR neurosurgical market," Andrew Flanagan, president and CEO of IMRIS, said in a statement. "We've had a long-standing and successful relationship with Siemens Healthineers, and look forward to continuing our partnership with a company that truly understands the breadth of imaging applications available to hospitals and the value that IMRIS brings to our customers. A strengthened collaboration between the two companies will position us to be the leaders in the global hybrid OR market."
