Three ways providers can improve patient satisfaction with online forms

Oftentimes making a small process improvement for your practice will simultaneously improve the patient experience. And switching your paper forms to online forms is one of those improvements.

Let’s face it: forms aren’t all that fun. They aren’t enjoyable to create, and they’re even less so to fill out. But today you have HIPAA-compliant options for creating and publishing online forms, like JotForm, that significantly enhance patient satisfaction while improving your practice’s organization and efficiency.

Register patients online
If you’re asking patients to print a downloadable New Patient Registration Form from your website, fill it out with a pen, and bring it in with them to their next appointment, then you’ve already created unsatisfied patients. There’s a better way to ask new patients to give necessary information before their scheduled appointment.

You can replace that same downloadable form with a link that asks the same questions, where the patient can fill it out right then and there. The information you collect from the form is more accurate (with less illegibility), no skipped questions (because you enabled required fields), and delivered much faster.

Leverage online forms for bill payments
When you make payments easier for the patient, you benefit by seeing your money faster.

If we’re living in an age where most people can remit parking tickets online, then there’s no reason why your practice should ask for mailed checks, phone exchanges during business hours, or worst of all, to stop by in person. Online payments are the only method that works at all hours of the day, and doesn’t require the patient to leave their couch.

Setting up a payment form on your website is easier than it sounds. Many online form options integrate with payment processors. Just create the form by dragging and dropping question fields in any form editor, and then select the company you’d like to use to process the payments, like Square, Authorize.Net, or PayJunction.

Use feedback forms to learn concerns
Any business benefits from actively listening to customer feedback, and that’s even more true for healthcare providers. Online reviews and patient referrals are a lifeblood for practices everywhere. And asking for patient feedback also allows them to feel heard and appreciated, which goes a long way toward their recommending your services.

There was once a time when you might have considered mailing a patient a feedback form and hoped they responded by mailing it back. But now you can provide a link to a HIPAA-compliant online feedback form that they can fill out at their leisure. When they respond, you have all of the various patient feedback information organized together, where you can analyze the data and truly get an understanding of patient pain points and concerns.
