Samsung Electronics announced plans on Thursday to connect its ARTIK Smart IoT Platform with the Philips HealthSuite Digital Platform.
“Our goal together is to provide better treatment for consumers by arming care professionals with more comprehensive, adequate and timely data that informs their patients' diagnosis and treatment plans,” Michael Golden, senior director of strategy and business development at Samsung IoT, told HCB News.
The Samsung ARTIK platform combines hardware, software, cloud, security and a partner ecosystem in a single offering. The Philips HealthSuite Digital Platform provides developers with services, capabilities and tools that can help them create next-generation health care innovations.

Device manufacturers that leverage ARTIK hardware or cloud services will have access to a wide range of applications and services through the Philips HealthSuite Digital Platform, including integration of devices and device data into EMR, Personal Health Records and advanced health analytics.
Health care application developers that use the Philips platform will have access to data from devices connected to Samsung’s SmartThings Cloud. They can also leverage data from various sources and IoT solution like QualcommLife, Validic and Philips’ HealthSuite IoT solution, which is based on Amazon Web Services IoT.
“The two platforms together provide a complete hardware and cloud services offering to advance health analytics and provide secure, integrated solutions that take on today's most complex health care data problems,” said Golden.
He explained that the cost of medical coverage and accessibility to medical assistance are two challenges that the Philips and Samsung platforms can tackle together.
“Remote patient monitoring applications are an example of where we hope developers can address both points to reduce the cost of health care and improve outcomes by allowing the patient's health to be safely monitored where it's convenient for them,” he added.
