Royal Philips launched its HealthSuite Insights artificial intelligence platform at 2018 HIMSS Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas.

“For a platform to be successful in health care, it must go beyond providing technology for creating AI models to address the unique barriers including ground truth creation, asset validation and introduction into operational clinical environments,” Jeroen Tas, chief innovation and strategy officer at Philips, told HCB News.

HealthSuite Insights offers data scientists, software developers, clinicians and health care providers access to advanced analytic capabilities and tools to create and deploy AI-based solutions. Philips uses this platform itself to leverage AI assets across its imaging systems, patient monitors and oncology and genomic solutions.

As part of HealthSuite Insights, Philips is also offering its Insights Marketplace. It’s initially offering curated AI assets supplied by Philips, including those developed by scientists working at Philips Research. But later this year it will expand to include assets submitted by third parties.

“The marketplace will provide health care organizations and technology vendors with the ability to share and commercialize valuable AI assets within the health care community,” said Tas. “Assets can be executed in the cloud or deployed on a hospital’s premises, according to the asset author’s preferences.”

AI-based solutions have the potential to improve patient outcomes at a lower cost, but the development and deployment processes can be time-consuming, resource-intensive and expensive. It requires access to massive data storage, computing resources, advanced analytics, and data sets that can train the AI algorithms.

“HealthSuite Insights is an integrated platform that provides users with the computing power and tools needed to build, run and deploy AI applications,” said Tas. “It’s designed by health care experts for health care experts; it allows the development of solutions that fit seamlessly into hospital workflows, care pathways and infrastructures.”
