Big names to highlight HIMSS18 in Las Vegas

There will be no shortage of prominent keynote speakers appearing at HIMSS18.

The event is set for March 5-9 at the Venetian-Palazzo Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, will get things started on Monday, March 5, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. His topic will be “Technology for a Healthier Future: Modernization, Machine Learning and Moonshots.”

Two speakers will address conference attendees on Friday, March 9, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. They are: David Shulkin, M.D., Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; and Vice Admiral Raquel C. Bono, director, Defense Health Agency (DHA), Defense Health Headquarters. Their topic: “It Takes a Community – Delivering 21st Century Coordinated Care for Those In and Out of Uniform.”

Immediately following their address, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., Keller Rinaudo, the founder and CEO of Zipline, will cover “Innovative Leadership, Robotic Technology and the Future of Healthcare.”

The final keynote speaker, addressing HIMSS18 on Friday, March 9, from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m., will be basketball legend and entrepreneur Earvin “Magic” Johnson. His topic: “Perspectives on Leadership and Healthcare Advocacy.”

All keynote sessions will be held in the Palazzo Ballroom.

Also, the exhibit hall hours will be: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, and Wednesday, March 7; and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 8.

The HIMSS18 Career Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wynn Las Vegas. Attendees will have the opportunity to post their resumes and connect with the top employers in health IT. The Career Fair is a centralized location for recruiters, job seekers, consultants and others who contribute to the development of the health IT workforce. Attendees will be able to meet one on one with recruiters.

The free resume review will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and between 1 and 3 p.m. Advice and recommended improvements will be provided by professional resume experts. Space is limited and advance registration is required.
