At the time, Rick Cornell, global SPECT manufacturing and radiopharmacy leader at GE, told HCB News, "the successful test is a proof of concept for SHINE's Mo-99 right now; once SHINE is at full manufacturing capacity, it should be able to supply approximately two-thirds of U.S. demand and approximately one-third of world demand," adding that, "GE sources from multiple suppliers of Mo-99, including SHINE's Mo-99, to ensure we don't have any future shortages."

SHINE plans to produce its first commercial batches of Mo-99 in the first half of 2020.

SHINE is also continuing to ramp up hiring at its Janesville offices. “We're now up to 47 employees,” Pitas said. “I was away on business trips for a month this spring, and I came back, and there were half a dozen people I'd never met. You know, because we're hiring that fast."

EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this article included two inaccuracies. Contrary to the previous report, no city funds will be used to fund the prototype. In addition, SHINE anticipates production to begin in 2020, whereas we previous version stated there was no timeline for production.
