VolparaEnterprise can provide physicians
with objective breast density assessment
Aimed at helping breast imaging providers deliver personalized breast screening to patients, Volpara Solutions has just launched its VolparaEnterprise software.

The solution allows physicians to monitor their performance in real time, and monitor workflow by determining how long it takes to acquire an image, how quickly a patient is screened, and how effectively technologists are able to position a patient. Performing rapid quality control checks can help reduce costs because image retakes are decreased, according to the announcement, and staff members are more effective.

Also, Clinical Quality Measures (CQM), a part of the software, is able to provide an objective assessment of breast density. “Because radiologists struggle to unambiguously separate [different breast compositions]… having an objective tool to help indicate which subjects would benefit most from supplemental screening is important,” Julian Marshall, CMO of Volpara Solutions, told HCB News.

“[This] helps facilities avoid performing procedures that, in the end, may not get reimbursed,” he said. “Additionally, this saves money and preserves staff and equipment bandwidth for other, reimbursable procedures.”

One facility reportedly discovered that a mammography system was using an incorrect dose setting by utilizing VolparaEnterprise.

Information can be accessed from any browser or mobile device, where it can be compared against other results from providers at the same facility, or elsewhere.

“There is a tremendous amount of data that impact nearly every aspect of a breast imaging practice,” said Dr. Bruce F. Schroeder, at Carolina Breast Imaging Specialists in Greenville, NC. “The ability to track trends for hundreds of quality metrics over time can dramatically enhance our ability to maintain quality patient care, as well as reduce the amount of time our staff spends on quality assurance,” he said.
