5) The cost of supply chain and inventory management solutions will decline. Hospitals have been overcharged for inventory management and will demand more cost-effective approaches, which require less investment in hardware and consulting expenses, provide more rapid user adoption, greater utilization and faster time to return on investment.
6) The need is growing for better methods of collecting and analyzing data. Creating better visibility to system-wide information will build understanding and allow hospitals to close gaps both within their own organizations and with their vendors. In the coming year, hospitals will identify ways to gather accurate, system-wide data and leverage reporting tools to help with forecasting, proactive planning, and better decision making.
7) There will be increasing pressure on hospitals to generate data and analysis that drives understanding of cost, quality and outcomes (CQO). At the most fundamental level is visibility to product usage, a major building block to understanding CQOs. In the coming year, there will be adoption of technology and business processes to drive visibility to utilization of supplies, propelling hospitals closer to understanding CQOs.
Today, there is growing acceptance of best practices proven in other industries. New technology can help increase the momentum of cost-effective change.
