Samsung Electronics America Inc. announced today that its Samsung RS80A ultrasound is now commercially available. This is Samsung's first ultrasound that is specifically designed for the radiology segment.

It features Samsung's new S-Vision architecture, which includes the S-Vision Beamformer and S-Vision Imaging Engine. The Beamformer allows the most optimal signal to be transmitted with fewer side lobes, which results in less noise and artifact, and improves image quality. The Imaging Engine ensures that the digital signals that are obtained from the Beamformer have clear and detailed resolution, and also tissue uniformity.

"The RS80A — with hybrid beamforming technology — is our next major entry into the premium ultrasound market, where image quality and workflow are essential for supporting an accurate and confident diagnosis," Doug Ryan, group vice president for Samsung's Health and Medical Equipment unit within its Enterprise Business Division, said in a statement.

The system also features Samsung's S-Vue transducer, which has a broader bandwidth and higher sensitivity than their other transducers. When used in combination with the Beamformer technology, it helps users to see pathology that is usually hard to visualize.

For breast imaging, it's S-Detect technology that standardizes the Breast Imaging-Reporting, and Data Systems (BI-RADS) score to analyze and classify targeted regions. The user can select a seed point on the touch screen and the technology automatically sets the lesion's boundary.

Its E-Breast technology computes the strain ratio for the lesion and the E-Thyroid technology uses an elastography index to determine the strain ratio of nodules. Its needle guidance technology includes Clear Track, which enables a sensor attached to the needle tip to draw a simulated path of the needle, and Advanced QuickScan, which allows the user to adjust imaging parameters, including color gain, by only touching one button.

Its Realistic Vue 3-D and 4-D technology displays detailed volume rendering, which allows users to spot subtle anatomical features with ease.

The system's LED display is high-resolution and 23 inches wide, and its tablet touch screen is 13.3 inches and has the ability to tilt. It also has a six-way motorized adjustable console.
