DOTmed: Tell us about this purchase.
We used short pulsed Nd-Yag lasers for toenail fungus treatments before. The results have been mixed, and not satisfactory all the time. Far less positive results that the mainstream publications indicated.

Finally, there was a moment of changing heart, and making a decision for something that would work better.

After comparing many devices against each other, and also against oral medications with a disappointing 60% rate of success, I came across a company that primarily makes a laser for podiatry use, and specifically for toenail fungus. The mechanism of action is different and it kills both fungi and bacteria alike by a photobiological effect rather than heat generation. Studies have been more comprehensive and compelling than previous devices, and the good thing is that it's operator independent...almost.

DOTmed: Why was the winner vendor chosen?
New mechanism of action, better designed and vaster clinical trials, more rigorous scientific studies, less heat generation, more comfortable for patients, and almost totally independent of an operator.

DOTmed: Any final thoughts?
This is a winner laser for this indication. The evidence is compelling, and the revenue generation for the work done is satisfactory. Besides, it's a diode laser, with much less service and maintenance need than solid state lasers.
