A tourist attraction
“Dubai is very much focusing on medical tourism as well as becoming a city where all those who live here don’t need to go abroad to get our treatment,” says Panther. “They also want to attract patients from abroad to come here and get everything from elective surgeries to cosmetic procedures.”

The Dubai health authorities are heavily focusing on developing the medical tourism area by opening new hospitals, airports and hotels and improving the primary and specialist care infrastructures.

“Obviously they are very mindful of diseases such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes or obesity and the primary health care networks have been strengthened so that they can try to fight those diseases early on,” says Panther. They are also putting an emphasis on specialty centers of excellence for cardiology and other surgical skills, according to Panther.

“Certainly we’ve come out of the dark days of the financial crisis and certainly not just health care but generally Dubai and the Middle East seem to be on track again,” says Panther.
