DOTmed: Please outline the scope of this project.
Main Line Health opened the doors on July 25 of the Heart Pavilion at Lankenau Medical Center. Expanding the medical footprint of the south side of the campus, the five-story, 274,000-square-foot facility was designed to deliver world-class medical care to the region.Part of an approximately $465 million, 600,000-square-foot Lankenau Medical Center Master Facility Project designed to increase the capacity of hospital programs and improve the patient experience, the Heart Pavilion contains outpatient diagnostics, imaging centers and 96 all-private rooms – which increases the hospital's bed count by 50 after converting existing semi-private rooms to all private rooms. International architecture, engineering, planning and creative services organization, RTKL, designed the building, while project management company, Stantec managed all construction operations.
Most notably, the cornerstone of the new Pavilion is the Lankenau Heart Institute, serving as a destination for advanced, personalized, high-quality cardiovascular care. The Lankenau Heart Institute's world-class cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and subspecialists will be collocated in the building to offer patient-centered care, integrating the latest prevention, diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and chronic disease management services.
Recognized for superior clinical outcomes by Medicare's Hospital Compare, Lankenau is the only hospital in the Philadelphia region with a mortality rate significantly better than the national average for both heart attack and heart failure. The Heart Pavilion will help to further enable these superior outcomes.
Every aspect of the Heart Pavilion renovation was designed to create the most harmonious environment possible for both the patient and the health care provider. From the composition of the building material and the angle of the suspended ceilings to the natural healing settings within each patient room and the open visibility of the nursing stations, all design elements were organized around highest-quality patient care, comfort and safety. The building also qualifies for LEED certification by incorporating a number of sustainable interior, exterior and structural components into the project and was recently appointed to be one of three tour stops as part of the Greenbuild Conference this fall to highlight sustainable and innovative approaches to health care design and construction.
