DOTmed: Please outline the scope of this project.
Middlesex Hospital is not wasting any time in building its new $28 million Shoreline Medical Center in Westbrook, CT. Scheduled to be finished by next April, the hospital will then replace its present medical center in Essex with the newly-built one in Westbrook.

The new Westbrook Emergency Center will feature an expanded emergency center, and a separate ambulance entrance. Radiology services will be expanded to include a new MRI testing area and a designated woman’s imaging area.

DOTmed: How will this project help the community you serve?
Locating the new emergency medical center close to the highway will facilitate access to the new center. For example, patients coming from the towns of Madison and Clinton to the west will have direct I-95 access to the center. Also, residents of towns such as Old Saybrook and Old Lyme to the east will also have direct I-95 access to the facility.

In addition, residents of towns such as Deep River, Chester and Haddam, will only have to drive south on Route 9, which flows directly into I-95, to reach the new medical center. Even Essex residents, who now have an Emergency Medical Center right in town, will not have it so bad. Essex residents will be only three miles down the road on Route 153 from the new center.

DOTmed: What does the timeline to completion look like?
April 2014.
