Canon's European branch said Thursday it bought Dutch PACS and medical imaging supplier Delft Diagnostic Imaging to help beef up its image-sharing and digital X-ray platforms.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but a Canon spokesman said the transaction has already been completed.
The acquisition makes Delft a subsidiary of Canon Europa N.V., and Yoshiyuki Masuko, the senior director of Canon's medical imaging group, will sit on its board.

Although the acquisition includes Delft's Oldelft Benelux branches in Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as its radiology software group Rogan-Delft, it leaves out Delft Imaging Systems, which sells chest X-ray equipment. Delft Imaging Systems will be spun off into a separate company, Canon said.
This group was not included in the purchase for "strategic reasons," a Canon Europe spokesman told DOTmed News by e-mail.
Canon and Delft already have a history together. For the past 10 years, Delft has distributed Canon's digital X-ray equipment in the Netherlands and Belgium, Canon said.
With the new purchase, Canon said it would strengthen its platforms for developing new health IT products, such as cross-enterprise document sharing for imaging systems, and new digital radiography services. However, Delft will retain its own branding, the company said.
Delft is headquartered in Veenendaal, Netherlands.
