Japan joint venture
Block Imaging International, Inc., a premier independent global marketer of pre-owned and refurbished medical imaging systems, recently announced a joint venture agreement with Japan's M-Cast, Inc. M-Cast, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Leasing and Finance Company, is responsible for deploying the medical imaging assets for MUFJ. This Agreement directs M-Cast to channel all such opportunities to Block Imaging International, Inc. through its Nihon Block Imaging KK subsidiary. This will give M-Cast access to global markets through the Block network.

As DOTmed News reported (DM12027), Mitsubishi is one of Japan's largest and most respected financial institutions with a vast leasing portfolio that includes semiconductor manufacturing equipment, industrial machine tools, and IT as well as medical imaging systems. MUFJ, through its M-Cast group, finances all types of medical equipment for hospitals and clinics and including high-end CT and MRI systems.

"Block Imaging is most pleased with this joint venture with M-Cast and its parent company Mitsubishi UFJ Leasing, as it helps to streamline and make more efficient the decommissioning, inspection and deinstallation of equipment coming back from lease, as well as the remarketing and resale of this equipment anywhere in the world," said Bruce L. Block, president. "Reliable supply only comes from reliable partners and we believe this agreement will ensure the Japanese market as a great source for excellent medical imaging equipment for years to come."

The arrangement with Block Imaging International is designed to meet the industry's ongoing supply side challenges brought on in part by providers limiting new equipment purchases, and reducing available trade-ins of used systems. At the same time, Block tells DOTmed News that the company has never had more equipment in its inventory.

"This agreement will help to shore up much needed supply and from a market rich in technology and in supply," said Dan Sutter, Block's VP of Business Development. "The relationship with prestigious names such as M-Cast and MUFJ will augment our customers' trust that we are doing everything possible globally to get them the equipment and the value they seek."

The partnership between these two significant organizations will efficiently satisfy M-Cast's need for the sale and deployment of its considerable supply of medical imaging systems, and Block Imaging's need for more quality equipment to meet its growing global demand. Japan has more medical imaging equipment per capita than another other country in the world. Both parties estimate that within three years 1,000,000,000 JPY in annual transactions will occur through this joint venture.
