PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA-ECRI Institute (www.ecri.org), an independent nonprofit organization that researches the best approaches to improving patient care, announces the enhancement of its online education program, e-Learn™. More than 40 new courses have been added to the catalog of risk management and patient safety courses.

The newly updated catalog includes multiple-part, in-depth courses on important issues facing healthcare providers worldwide, including:

- Culture of Safety
- Disruptive Practitioner Behavior
- Electronic Health Records
- Medication Safety
- Communication

ECRI Institute's program uses proven learning techniques to help healthcare entities meet accreditation and regulatory requirements for staff education related specifically to patient safety and risk management issues. Additionally, e-Learn courses are based on ECRI Institute's 40 years of independent research, which is backed by strict conflict-of-interest policies.

"Today, learning techniques and independence must be considered when creating healthcare educational products," says John Clarke, M.D., ECRI Institute's Clinical Director for Safety and Quality. "Our courses are based on proven principles for adult education and on our unbiased research, which is free from the influence of manufacturers and other industries."

ECRI Institute's e-Learn courses are designed to incorporate accepted adult learning principles, such as providing learners with metacognitive supports to manage cognitive load and incorporating opportunities for peer-to-peer interaction with discussion forums.

ECRI Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The CME opportunities associated with these courses have been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Elements and Accreditation Policies of ACCME and designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
